About the Site Designer: Shelly Durrell
It's only fair that you know a little bit about me and my background. Like you, I have had my share of ups and downs in my life, but through it all, I've ended up living a Great Life. I am one of those people who said "Someday I will write a book," and I did (Healing the Fisher King: Spiritual Lessons with Parzival, Gump, the Grail, and Star Wars). The book won five awards. I became a Kung Fu teacher (Sifu) in the Wah Lum Tam Tui Northern Praying Mantis System and also a teacher of Tai Chi and other Internal Martial Arts, teaching for over 24 years. I've organized shows, demonstrations, and seminars, allowing me to travel the world for these promotions. I've done rim-to-rim hikes of the Grand Canyon. A few years ago I moved to Vegas, allowing me to trek to Zion, Bryce, and the Grand Canyon a few times of the year. I continue to learn, grow, and seek out new adventures, which is my definition of a Great Life. I hope my website will help you enjoy your life and find your personal adventures.

The more specific and measurable your goal, the more quickly you will be able to identify, locate, create, and implement the use of the necessary resources for its achievement.

— Charles J. Givens —

Once we know what we want to accomplish, it is time to consider what resources are needed. I break resources down into four areas.

  1. People
  2. Knowledge
  3. Tools and Materials
  4. Finance

What is important is understanding the sharing and balancing relationship between these four areas. If you are lacking in one or two of the areas for a project, you can make up for it with the other two. Oftentimes, we just think of money as the primary resource, because we believe money can buy anything. It almost can. Let's say that you have a lot of money for a project, but that money goes to the people who were the best self-promoters, rather than having the right knowledge to help you. All of that money will be wasted. Or let's say that you don't have a lot of money, but you have friends who can help you (friends who know what they are doing), then the money becomes less of an issue. Sometimes hiring the right people with the right knowledge can be expensive, but with some time and effort, you may acquire enough education to do part of the work yourself.

More detail will be found at the Applying the STARS System section. The three phases where we will be evaluating our Resources are:

  1. At the Beginning of a Project.
You will be making a quick note on The STARS System Design Overview Sheet This file requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, which you can get from the Third Party Downloads panel at your left. of the various resources you think you will need. Many times people just start thinking of the Finances, ignoring the other three. By taking the time to consider all four areas, this will help you with the balancing of the areas for the task development phase. These will make you think of how to use your resources as efficiently as possible.

  2. During the formulation of your Task List.
As you work on The STARS System Stage Task List This file requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, which you can get from the Third Party Downloads panel at your left. you should also be considering how you may have to substitute one resource for the other. That way if something unexpected happens which affects your resource, you have a backup plan.

  3. At the end of a Stage or Project.
When you finish your Stage or Project, you will be filling out The STARS System Stage and Project Evaluation Sheet This file requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, which you can get from the Third Party Downloads panel at your left.. One of the things you should be noting is not only how successful you were in budgeting your resources, but how well were you able to balance them.
