About the Site Designer: Shelly Durrell
It's only fair that you know a little bit about me and my background. Like you, I have had my share of ups and downs in my life, but through it all, I've ended up living a Great Life. I am one of those people who said "Someday I will write a book," and I did (Healing the Fisher King: Spiritual Lessons with Parzival, Gump, the Grail, and Star Wars). The book won five awards. I became a Kung Fu teacher (Sifu) in the Wah Lum Tam Tui Northern Praying Mantis System and also a teacher of Tai Chi and other Internal Martial Arts, teaching for over 24 years. I've organized shows, demonstrations, and seminars, allowing me to travel the world for these promotions. I've done rim-to-rim hikes of the Grand Canyon. A few years ago I moved to Vegas, allowing me to trek to Zion, Bryce, and the Grand Canyon a few times of the year. I continue to learn, grow, and seek out new adventures, which is my definition of a Great Life. I hope my website will help you enjoy your life and find your personal adventures.

The bird a nest, the spider a web, man friendship.

— William Blake —

Long before the internet became a major force in connecting people, William Blake recognized the power of friendship as a central connection in life. In this section you will be thinking about where you want your relationships to head. Look at your family life, your friends, your work associates, and all in between. After completing the exercise, you can insert it into the Relationships section of your DYGL Binder if you are not writing about it in a separate journal.

My Relationships Exercise

  1. My Ultimate Fantasy.
Is your fantasy of a real Prince Charming in your life? Or a Playboy Playmate? Or have you found Prince Charming and are dreaming of a large family to raise together? Forget the tough times you've been through and allow yourself to dream as you did as a child.
  2. My Closer to Reality Dream.
Many of you have someone special in your life, but know there are some chinks in the relationship that need some fixing up. Or maybe there is a family member that you feel disconnected from, and you would like a closer relationship. There may be some friends or co-workers that you like and would like to spend more time with. Are you a shy person and your shyness has prevented you from having many friends? Look at the people around you, as well as yourself.
  3. What Part of My Dream Do I Have Now and How Did I Achieve It?
You've already formed relationships, which means you have been giving something positive to the people around you. What are those attributes that make you a good mate / friend / co-worker?
  4. Why Haven't I Achieved More of My Dream to Date?
Sometime in the past, a relationship didn't work out. Now is the time to look at the reason of the failure. Remember to not only look to the actions of the other person, but also yourself.
  5. Design Brainstorming.
If you are looking to meet people, start listing places you could go to meet new friends or a significant other. If you are looking to enhance relationships you are in, brainstorm on activities you could do together. If you want to improve your communication skills, look up classes you can take.
